You know how yesterday I reported that running in that three mile race had made my plantar fascitis problem in my left heel really flare up, worse pain than I'd ever experienced in either heel. Today I went to my podiatrist who said that the intensity of the pain and the location made him suspect more than simply plantar fascitis and he wanted x-rays.... So I got my left foot x-rayed. (You know where this is going, right?) Yes, my left heel is fractured...
Fortunately, one of my co-workers lives over on this side of the bay, so I'll probably hitch a ride with her a couple times a week and work from home the rest of the time. I go back for a follow-up x-ray on St. Patrick's Day... and will then be told something like my foot is healed and I don't need the boot any longer, or progress is being made and I need to wear it for a couple more weeks, or it isn't healing and I'll need surgery. And no, I haven't a clue as to how I did it... other than that I was splashing through multiple puddles of ice water and my foot could have be numb enough that I was hitting the ground too hard without noticing it... or it could have been an old fracture that got over stressed... a few days ago I kicked some accumulated ice and crud out of the wheel wells of my car, but nothing hurt then, nor did I have any pain during the days leading up to the race???
