Wicked good -- 12/23/09

If you have just wandered in from Holidailies and wonder who's who, there's a brief introduction to various characters at the end of this entry...

We went to see Wicked last night at PPAC in Providence and it was, as we say in Rhode Island, "wicked good!" (Of course, the way it is pronounced around here, "wicked" sounds more like "wicket.")

This was a night out with Nancy's sister Janet and her husband Tom. The four of us had gone to PPAC to see Mama Mia this past New Year's Eve and a huge snowstorm hit earlier that day and there was snow everywhere. Now we had that big storm over this past weekend (Nancy even had a snow day from school on Monday) and there were mounds of snow everywhere. Jersey Boys is going to be playing at PPAC in May and early June and we'd like to see it but do you think we will attract a May blizzard if we do?

So... I missed posting two entries... and I had been doing so well, actually posting thirteen entries in a wow. I was just too busy with work on Monday and then we celebrated an early Christmas for Jeremy because he is going to Costa Rica for a winter getaway to spend a week or so in a warmer climate (in fact, as I type this he is up in the air on his way there) and then Nancy & I fixed dinner together: chicken pot pie -- I peeled and cut up and cooked the potatoes and onions and carrots and celery -- but used frozen peas and a boxed low-sodium chicken stock instead of making my own -- while Nancy made a real pie crust, rolled out with a rolling pin (whereas I usually cheat and make a Bisquick crust). And after dinner I was just too tired to (and, besides which, my weekly antivirus scan runs on Monday evenings). Tuesday I was again too busy with work and, of course, we went to see Wicked last night and didn't get home until around 11:30 or so (didn't get to bed until past midnight).

That thirteen entries in a row beats the twelve in a row I had during Holidailies-2006 (although, since I had also posted an entry the day before that year's Holidailies began, I actually did have thirteen consecutive days of entries). Other than that, my longest writing streak here has been the eighteen consecutive entries I posted in January of 2000 (which is also the month with the most entries: twenty-five that month).

And now I need to post this and get back to work so I can finish with enough time to go grocery shopping. Since I am still wearing that moon boot on my right foot for my Achilles tendon problem, I need Nancy to drive me. I have a coupon for ten percent off my order at Stop & Shop and it will expire Christmas Day, so I should really try to do a fairly large shopping to get the most value out of that coupon.

A brief introduction for those of you wandering in here from Holidailies for the first time: I'm just a middle-aged guy (but somehow I hit 66 on my last birthday) who lives in Rhode Island with my wife Nancy (a middle-school math teacher), daughter Gillian ("Jill" -- 27 yr old college student and baker), son Jeremy (24 yr old restaurant cook and part-time college student), and Tiger (senior citizen cat). Eldest child Adam lives in New York City with his wife Leah and our grandsons Sam and Milo. I'm a former programmer/systems analyst who got involved with software training and instructional design. For the past several years I have been working from home (you can't beat the short commute!) doing quality assurance and editing on course material for both classroom courses and Web-based training courses for a very big computer company. I've been writing this online journal since 1996.
