Changes -- 05/27/10

Things are changing around here...

Left picture is my foot a few days ago (that's not a trombone under my foot; that's one of my crutches) and the right picture is my foot a few hours ago, wearing my moonboot again. I'm getting around much better... don't even need the crutches if I'm not going too far. Things are healed enough that I can even stand up on both feet (as long as I'm wearing the moonboot and I don't try to stand for too long).

But that's not really what I meant by changes. The big change is that Jill is moving to Connecticut. She and Eli have found an apartment near where he is going to be going to be starting law school in a couple of months.

Back in August of 2002 I had an entry called "She's Leaving Home" about Jill moving to an apartment in Providence. That was long enough ago that I was still using pseudonyms for Jill and her brother Jeremy, calling her Jennifer and calling him Sean, but even back then she was already twenty years old. During the eight years since then, she has lived "at home" probably about half the time and about the same for Jeremy as well. In 2008 they were living in a five bedroom house in Narragansett with three friends. (And when your kids are young and fighting about something do you think you could every persuade them that "just wait a dozen years or so and I bet you would even chose to rent a house together." (Naw, they'd never believe it.) They moved back a year and a half ago (just as we were ripping up the floors in their bedrooms so we could have those new hardwood floors put in). And now Jill's headed off again.

Eli rented a truck for the move. They didn't have the size he'd rented, so they let him have the much larger one they did have available, plenty of room...

And here they are, loading the truck...

And so... a time of changes...

Yeah, yeah, I know... she is a 28 year old woman, not a little girl... My goodness, when I was her age I had just finished my first year in a doctoral program and had an almost three-year-old kid who was eagerly looking forward to starting real nursery school in the fall... and now that little kid is going to be 42 in September... and his children will be three and seven this summer.
