Just a touch of bronchitis -- 12/31/10

This is my 14th entry in my 5th year of taking part in Holidailies. If you have wandered in from Holidailies, you can scroll down to read a brief introduction.

Yeah, I've not posted since Sunday and here it is Friday and I am supposed to be participating in Holidailies...

Well, I woke up Monday morning with a sore throat. (This was puzzling because I had felt really good on Sunday.) In the afternoon I went outside with Nancy and Jill and the three of us spent almost an hour shoveling the snow dumped by the blizzard. I was exhausted when we got back in and just sort of collapsed on the couch in the living room by the fireplace and just sort of drifted in and out of sleep for a couple of hours. Nancy was impressed because I am not known for doing serious amounts of napping.

Tuesday morning I knew I was really sick. I was shaking and shivering and I ached all over. I spent most of the day in bed. I tend to sleep in t-shirt and shorts (yes, even in the winter) but that day I was wearing a heavy sweatshirt and sweat pants -- and even socks -- and was still shivering.

Well, to cut to the chase -- I finally went to our doctor's office and got confirmation that I was, indeed, pretty sick. I was told that I apparently had the very severe strain of the common cold that has been going around our town in recent weeks. She said that she had seen some cases progress to pneumonia -- but that my lungs sounded clear with just a bit of bronchial involvement. She didn't think a chest x-ray was needed but if I began to have breathing difficulty or if I began to feel worse, she would schedule an immediate x-ray to double-check.

So... our planned New Year's Eve dinner party had to be cancelled.

This cold will pass and I should be all better in time for work next week. (But what a bummer to be sick during a vacation week!)

And tomorrow morning there will be a brand new year to experience.

Happy New Year!
