Lunch break -- 02/27/05

This week's Sunday Brunch is all about lunch:
"Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what's for lunch." -Orson Welles

1) Do you take your lunch hour at work?

Usually -- sometimes I get involved in stuff and don't break until late and sometimes (especially when working from home) I just keep grabbing coffee and just work right on through -- but I usually take a lunch break.

2) What is your favorite place to eat lunch at?

When I am working in the office -- which is relatively rare these days since I work from home so much (last week I had some meetings so I went to the office three days, which matches my total for the entire month of January) -- I usually eat at my desk. When I am working with people who are visiting from out-of-town I like to go out for lunch, usually to Pickles ("Pickles -- A Deli" is the full name).

When I eat at home I usually eat in the kitchen -- except during the summer when Nancy is home and the weather is pleasant we usually eat together outside on the back deck or the front porch.

3) What do you usually eat for lunch?

Even though I make a lunch for Nancy to take to work each day, when I do go to the office I frequently don't bring lunch with me but go out and buy it and bring it back to the office. I most often go to Subway and get a tuna sub (on honey oat or whole wheat with lettuce, onion, green peppers, and hot peppers) or an Italian sub (provolone, oil & vinegar, everything). When I eat at Pickles I usually get a #1 (turkey on a croissant with tomato and bacon).

If I'm eating at home (and I don't skip lunch) I'll usually open a can of soup or microwave something left over from dinner. If I'm fixing lunch for both Nancy and me I'll be a little fancier -- soup with salad or sandwich with some sliced raw veggies on the side.

4) Do you have anyone that you eat lunch with on a regular basis?

If I'm in the office I usually eat by myself unless, as I noted above, I have out-of-town vistors. If I'm home I'm eating by myself unless Nancy is home.

5) If not eating, what do you usually do on your lunch hour?

Keep working -- although sometimes I workout (ride exercise bike, go for a run, etc.) instead of having lunch, then just eat an apple or something afterward.
