Sammy at the beach  --  09/20/05

Sammy -- my grandson -- came to visit this past weekend.

Oh, and he brought his mother and father along. *grin*

Adam and Leah followed what we have taken to doing to beat the high cost of Amtrak tickets -- take Metro-North commuter rail instead. Saturday morning they took Metro-North to Milford, where I met them and drove the rest of the way to our house. We got to spend most of Saturday together, all day Sunday, plus Monday until mid-afternoon (when I dropped them at the Milford station to catch the 2:08 back to New York City).

Sunday afternoon we went to East Matunuck State Beach....
It was a lovely day, warm and sunny, with a refreshing breeze along the shore. This beach is about a mile long but there were only a few dozen people spread out over that mile, instead of the hundreds -- or thousands some days -- who fill the beach on hot sunny days in July and August. (Nancy and I have come here sometimes when there is a line of cars waiting for someone to leave, freeing up a parking space.)
Sammy loved the water. He seemed fascinated by the waves and the way the water would come and swirl around his feet. (He didn't like it, however, when seaweed brushed his feet.)

When I first picked them up at the train station on Saturday and Adam fastened him into his car seat, Sammy began to call out "Hi Grampa! Hi Grampa!" Wow.

It was a wonderful weekend.
