Doing the garden -- 06/18/06

Doing the garden,
Digging the weeds
Who could ask for more?

Yes, today is Sir Paul McCartney's birthday -- his 64th birthday...

Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

Of course since I'm a mere sixty-three I can chuckle at that...

I did a lot of digging in my garden last weekend. I put in a lot of lettuce (about half romaine and half red leaf) and some cucumbers and two different kinds of eggplant plus four tomato plants. Yesterday I added some parsley and two different kinds of basil. I also did a lot of digging in a different area nearby where I'm thinking of putting in some zucchini and maybe some yellow squash. I had planned on heading off to a plant nursery sometime this afternoon to get the squash and maybe some more lettuce, but I've run out of energy.

We've got summer weather -- bright and sunny, in the upper seventies (25 or 26 C) -- I went out for a run a bit past noon, did a couple of miles in the sun and began to melt, so I came back home and headed down to the cooler air in the basement to ride my exercise bike and lift some weights. I still feel rather melted so I'm just taking things easy for the rest of the afternoon.

I do the food-producing gardening... Nancy does the decorative gardening...

These flowers caught my eye earlier today when I was out back taking the picture of my vegetable garden; the color just seemed to leap out at me. (It's a variety of Asiatic lily.)
