Last week Bev and Mary did the Sunday Stealing questions and, being easily led astray, I followed along. This week they are at it again (both Bev and Mary) and I guess I can't help but imitate the cool kids... I was only going
to do 21-30 today and do the others some other day, but then I got on a
roll and just went through them all...
21) What's something you've always wanted?
A trip into space.
22) Do you have hairy legs?
Uh, yeah, they are a bit hairy.
23) What does “Semper Fidelis” stand for?
It translates to "Always faithful" or "Always loyal."
It is the motto of the U.S. Marine Corps (and of a number of military organizations,
etc. around the world). The Marines generally shorten it to Semper Fi.
24) Would you rather swim in the ocean or a lake?
Either -- both are enjoyable. Well, I grew up swimming in lakes (and the
Hudson River) and was never in an ocean until I was 19 years old. Swimming is easier in lakes (that is, actual swimming, not just splashing around), but I enjoy the ocean. Since all of the beaches I know here in Rhode Island are ocean beaches (or Narragansett Bay beaches) I guess I would select ocean. (Indian Lake -- the one sung about by the Cowsills in their 1968 hit Indian Lake -- is only four or five miles from here, but it's a private lake and I've never been there.)
25) Do you wear a lot of black?
Some. I've got a couple of black shirts and a couple of black t-shirts
and another black t-shirt (a souvenir from the Nasjonal Galleriet in Oslo, Norway) and a pair of black denim jeans, and a few other odds
& ends. Actually, I'm probably more likely to be in blue or gray than
black.
26) Describe your hair:
Probably a little bit longer than average but not nearly as long as I have
worn it in the past. It once was dark but is now more salt than pepper
(and in bright light looks mostly white). Center part. Covers the tops
of my ears. It hasn't been long enough to wear in a pony tail for almost
twenty years now.
27) Do you have Entomophobia?
Depends on the particular bug (and perhaps how many of them are there).
28) Are you an adult?
Yeah, 'fraid so.
29) Do you own or rent?
Own
30) Do you have a tan?
This is January 13th and I live in New England. What do you think?
31) Are you addicted to TV?
No, I don't think so. I do enjoy some of the HBO series (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Newsroom, True Blood). There are two network series -- Castle and Parenthood -- that we like, but we use our on-demand feature to watch them, rather then when the networks broadcast them. In the past we used Netflix to send DVDs of some shows that we would watch (Mad Men, Battlestar Galactica). Now we have a Roku box, so we tend to use Netflix streaming and Amazon
Prime streaming to watch some television series. As I mentioned recently,
in the late fall we were watching Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. Then we got into watching Downton Abbey -- and got through the first two seasons just in time to watch the two
hour opening of season 3. We will watch it tonight on PBS; I think season
3 will conclude in March, just in time for the next season of Game of Thrones on HBO. We are using streaming to work our way through season 1 of Stargate - Universe. Since a "one hour" episode is only 43 minutes long when stripped
of commercials, we do sometimes watch two episodes back-to-back. Gee, when
I name all of these series, it does sound like a lot of television, but
Nancy's next semester starts in a few days, and that follows the same pattern
as the fall semester, studying will take over four nights a week.
32) Do you enjoy spending time with your In-laws?
Yes, I do. See our Thanksgiving. They are a really nice bunch of people.
33) Are you a sugar freak?
No. I do not drink soda. Except on rare occasions when I am in a coffee
shop and I might get a cappuccino, I drink my coffee black. I do enjoy
eating any leftover candy following Halloween, but other than that I don't
eat candy very often. (Okay, so I do like cookies and cakes and pies --
and my wife and my daughter are both excellent bakers.)
34) What happened to Larry King?
I don't know. Did something happen to him?
35) What sign are you?
You mean astrological? Taurus.
36) What do you wish on your birthday?
Uh, I dunno. To do it again next year?
37) Who did you copy this from?
From Sunday Stealing because Bev & Mary did it.
38) Do you eat breakfast?
Yes. Generally a bowl of some very crunch high fiber cereal (usually Kashi) with some fruit tossed in (fresh berries in season, otherwise sliced
banana or a dried fruit such as raisins or Craisins) and some skim milk.
Once in a while I will do a cooked breakfast (such as eggs and toast).
39) What would you name the royal baby?
Uh, "your highness?" Okay, but seriously, why should I care what
the kid will be called and why should they care what I think?
40) Do you buy a newspaper?
Yes. The Providence Journal (7 days a week) and the South County Independent (weekly). I remain a newspaper reader -- even though newspapers keep cutting
back and cutting back, I still remain a regular reader. One of these days,
however, they may combine yet another reduction in content with yet another
increase in price and I may have to rethink my newspaper addiction.
