Sunday stealing on Friday -- 06/14/13 |
|||||
Yeah, Sunday Stealing on a Friday. Bev Sykes did these questions this past Sunday and it's been a while since I did one so I decided to do it, but it just took me until Friday to get around to it.. Do you wear slippers? I have a pair of moccasins that I think of as slippers. How many pictures are in your living room? Seven famed pictures (paintings and prints) on the walls (all with a New England sea theme – waves on a beach, lighthouses, etc.) and five frames with family photographs on tables. Do you ever watch Brady Bunch reruns? I saw a few when Jill and Jeremy were little.. Are you allergic to anything? Some kinds of pollen. When was the last time you called in sick? I have worked from home for quite a few years now. My last official day at the office was 05/10/07, but I had been pretty much avoiding the office except for meetings for more than three years by that time. So I tend to "call in sick" only when I am sick enough not to want to sit in front of my computers. Last year I think I took a couple of sick days – one when I felt really sick with a bad cold and didn't feel up to doing anything and also the day when I had my foot surgery. (Actually, I took the entire end of the year off, starting from a couple of days before Thanksgiving right up to the end of the year. That time was vacation time + holiday time + my non-working “transition to retirement” days – in fact, I think I lost a couple of those days because there wasn't enough year left for me to take them off, but I figured if I was being operated on, I was entitled to “call in sick.”) Have you ever been in a car accident? Several, but most were mere fender benders and one in which my car was totalled, but no injuries. What is your favorite snack food? I like snacking on nuts and fruit. Yes, and on cookies and muffins and cupcakes and pies and cakes baked by Nancy and by Jill. (Oh, and also candy bars for a couple of weeks following Halloween.) Have you ever seen a tornado? On television and in movies. If you won a million dollars, what would you buy first? Dunno. First? We would probably spiff up the house a bit – kitchen, bathrooms, replace our back deck with a three season room – and then stash most of it away for retirement (less than seven months to go). What time is it right now? As I am typing this sentence it is 6:02 p.m. Do you think it's cool for men to wear flip-flops? I don't care. I've never had a pair – they don't strike me as being very comfortable at all. How many pairs of shoes do you own? Four pairs of running shoes: a fairly new pair (for running and working out), an older but still good pair (for everyday wear and for working out), an old pair for everyday wear, and a really old pair for wearing gardening, lawn work, etc. A pair of steel-toed work boots (for heavy yardwor, splitting wood, etc.) and a pair of wnter boots (for snow shoveling, etc.). A pair of moccasins (as mentione earlier). A pair of walking shoes that can pass as dress shoes. A couple pairs of dress shoes (one black pair, one brown pair) that I never wear. I did have a pair of hiking shoes but they didn't survive when Jill and I were hiking last year. (Note to self: need to buy another pair of running shoes and also another pair of hiking shoes.) Do you think you are a hypochondriac? No. Do you own a dictionary? Yes, several, but my favorite is my two volume OED (that is, The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary on Historical Principles) – however, when in front of a computer, I tend to look things up online. Where was the last place you went on vacation? Off hand, I think it was a trip over to New York state for my 50th high school reunion two years ago (where we stayed in a nice B&B, went hiking, etc.) -- we live in a summer resort area so while at home we visit the same beaches that vacationers come to visit, take day trips to Block Island, etc. We thought about taking a cruise late in May, but decided to stick around here and save our money. Do you talk about your friends behind their back? Not really. Are you actually fat but in complete denial about it? I would be happy to drop 15 pounds but do not think I am actually fat (nor do I think I am in denial about it). Overweight, yeah; fat, no. What color is your mouse pad? I haven't used a mouse pad in years. Does your kitchen have a theme? Yeah, it's called “kitchen circa 1995.”
